Quake survivors desperate for tents as cold, snow descend

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Van, Turkey.  

Survivors of a deadly earthquake in southeast Turkey scrambled for tents on Thursday, fearful that more people would die from exposure to plunging temperatures four days after the tremor killed at least 523. 

Rescue workers dug deeper into collapsed buildings on Tuesday in a battle against time to find survivors from an earthquake in southeast Turkey that killed hundreds and made tens of thousands homeless. Rescuers pulled more dead bodies from under the rubble of dozens of collapsed homes overnight while people slept around small fires in towns rattled by aftershocks across Van province, near the Iranian border.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Africa.  The Horn of Africa has been one of the poorest lands in the World for decades, and they have faced food scarcity and drought several times in their history. This time it may be the worst!

Turkish Cultural Center New York in collaboration with Helping Hands Relief Foundation fundraised for the victims of the Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan.  Members of the Turkish-American community in New York visited Mr. Shigeyuki Hiroki, the Consul General of Japan in New York. Mr. Nevzat Yilmaz from Helping Hands Relief Foundation presented a check  to be used for relief efforts in Japan.
